What’s Happening for Houston Veterans This Week (Jan 26–Feb 2)
Happy Monday, Civvie!
With the cold, rainy weather rolling through Houston, we hope you are staying warm, safe, and dry. The good news... Warmer days are ahead for the rest of the week. If you’re laying low today, this is a good one to scroll and plan ahead.
We’ve added 6 new veteran events. More opportunities to connect, find work, access resources, and spend time with other veterans across Houston and the surrounding areas.
The Civvie Connect is this Wednesday! With the weather warming up and people ready to be around others again, our first in-person meetup is shaping up to be a great night focused on connection, conversation, and community.
You’ll also find this week’s spotlight on a veteran building veteran-first solutions around advocacy, technology, and community, along with a curated list of veteran-owned businesses and service organizations making an impact locally.

🌟 THE CIVVIE SPOTLIGHT
Odie Gray - Building a Better Off Ramp for Veterans
Most people talk about fixing the transition for veterans; Odie Gray is building it.
Odie is an Army veteran who started in Flight Ops, then moved into information security and spent the rest of his service in cyber. Now he’s applying that same mission-first mindset through Six Watch, a veteran advocacy organization built on a simple promise. We’ve got the watch. We’ve got your six.
Six Watch is launching with a docu-short project focused on the modern disabled veteran experience. Not a highlight reel. A real look at the quality of life after service, what happens when a vet reaches out for support, and where the process still breaks down. The goal isn’t to attack the system. It’s to be factual, show the gaps clearly, and rally the community toward solutions that actually help.
That docu-short leads into the next build. EarnedIT, an AI-enabled platform designed to help veterans navigate disability claims with less confusion and less overwhelm. What makes it different is the human layer. Veterans can be paired with a Veteran Advocate, a battle buddy who meets on a cadence that fits, weekly, monthly, or quarterly. Not a therapist. Not a hotline script. A veteran in your corner who speaks the language and understands the weight that comes after transition.
Odie is also building upstream options for service members approaching ETS. Through Six Watch and partners approved for DOD SkillBridge, he’s creating pathways into internships with employer partners. On the Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) side, he’s developing the Veteran Sustainability Initiative, designed for veterans whose military jobs don’t translate neatly into civilian job postings. The model is bold. A nine-week experience in Punta Cana with support for mental and physical health, plus training in cybersecurity. VR&E covers accommodations. The veteran covers the flight.
And he’s not stopping at programs and platforms. Odie wants veterans back together in real life through quarterly meetups called Final Formation. Think end-of-day formation energy, a way to learn what other veteran organizations are doing. Community first. Awareness second.
If you’re a veteran navigating benefits, a transitioning service member looking for a stronger runway, or an organization that wants to help build veteran-first solutions, Six Watch is looking for aligned collaborators.
🤝 Meet Odie at The Civvie Connectevent on Wednesday.
