🌟 THE CIVVIE SPOTLIGHT
Robin Talton — Creating Safe, Affordable Housing for Houston Veterans
Robin Talton didn’t serve in uniform, but service runs deep in her story.
Her father is an Army veteran who served during the Gulf War, and like many military families, the benefits he earned quietly shaped her future. Those benefits helped Robin complete her education and become a nurse practitioner. That career would later bring her face-to-face with the realities many veterans carry long after service.
In 2021, Robin began working as a contractor performing VA Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams. Day after day, veterans sat across from her and shared their stories of injuries that went undocumented, conditions never reported, and benefits they struggled to access because they didn’t know the system or felt discouraged from seeking care while serving.
Those conversations stuck with her.
“I just kept asking myself, what can I do?” Robin shared. “If the system can’t help everyone the way it should, how can I help in my own way?”
The answer came through real estate.
While reviewing old notes, Robin rediscovered an idea she had written down years earlier: creating an independent living space designed to help people stabilize and transition. Around the same time, she began learning more about veteran homelessness and housing insecurity in Houston. Everything clicked.
Robin started Elevate Property & Realty, a fully furnished co-living home on Houston’s northeast side, specifically for veterans. The space offers private bedrooms with shared living areas, utilities included, and flexible month-to-month stays — designed for veterans who need short-term stability or a longer runway to get back on their feet.
There are no rigid lease terms. Credit scores aren’t a barrier. Veterans can come through referrals or reach out directly. Robin’s focus is simple: provide safe, dignified housing and meet people where they are.
“I want this to be more than a place to sleep,” she said. “I want it to be a launching point.”
Inside the home, Robin plans to post veteran resources, events, and opportunities — creating a full-circle support environment that combines housing with connection and information. She’s also working closely with VA outreach teams, local organizations, and referral partners to ensure the space reaches veterans who need it most.
This is just the beginning. Robin hopes to replicate the model, educate other landlords, and help expand veteran-focused housing across Houston.
If you know a veteran who needs housing or someone who works with veterans in transition, connect with Robin.
This is what a passionate patriot looks like in action.
