What’s Happening for Houston Veterans This Week (Feb 23rd - Mar 1st)
Happy Monday, Civvie!
If you’ve been waiting for a reason to get back out and reconnect, this might be it. The Houston veteran community has a full slate of events lined up. From entrepreneurship and hiring to coffee meetups and relationship workshops, there are real opportunities to plug back in this week.
The Civvie Connect is this Wednesday, and momentum is building with over 70 registered to attend. We’re looking forward to bringing veterans and supporters together again for a relaxed, in-person evening focused on real connection. If you’ve been meaning to get out, meet new faces, or reconnect with familiar ones, this is your week.
You’ll also find this week’s spotlight highlighting the work being done to equip transitioning veterans with confidence, preparation, and direct access to employers, along with veteran-owned businesses and organizations continuing to serve the community.
And one more thing. Next week we’ll be announcing a big event in conjunction with Fleet Week. If you like BBQ and Whiskey, this one is for you!

🌟 THE CIVVIE SPOTLIGHT
A New Uniform for the Next Mission. Inside Career Gear Houston
After meeting David DeLaO at a recent veteran event, within minutes I could tell he was deeply passionate about helping veterans navigate one of the hardest chapters of service. Transition.
Not just finding a job.
Not just updating a résumé.
But rebuilding confidence.
David introduced me to Career Gear Houston and invited me to see firsthand what they’re doing. After hearing how their programs operate, one thing became clear.
This is about more than suits.
Career Gear Houston’s flagship program, Mission Possible, is a full-day, monthly Military Transitional Workshop designed to equip veterans with the tools, clarity, and confidence needed to successfully enter the civilian workforce.
And it’s led by a fellow veteran who understands the transition personally.
Participants receive hands-on support in:
Translating military experience into a results-based civilian résumé
Developing a professional cover letter
Professional networking strategy
Interview preparation
Crafting a compelling 30-second elevator pitch
The workshop is practical. Tactical. Action-oriented.
But what truly sets Career Gear apart is what happens next.
Veterans who complete Mission Possible receive a professional suiting appointment, where they are fitted by a stylist and tailored to align with the career field they’re pursuing.
It’s a new uniform for a new chapter.
Graduates also qualify for an invitation to Warrior for Life, an exclusive employer networking luncheon. Veterans sit directly with veteran-friendly employers who are actively hiring, creating a real pathway to meaningful employment.
This is confidence. Preparation. Direct access.
You can feel the conviction when David talks about the mission. Career Gear Houston isn’t just preparing veterans for interviews. They’re helping them step into the next season of life with presence and belief.
If you’re transitioning, know someone who is, or want to support organizations doing real work in this space, Mission Possible is worth exploring.
