Happy Monday, Civvie!
Wow... what a weekend for the Houston veteran community. Fleet Week brought incredible energy to the city, and Valor & Victory Fest was a powerful reminder of what can happen when veterans, active-duty service members, businesses, and supporters come together in one place.
From great food and entertainment to meaningful conversations, new relationships, and organizations showing up to serve, the event became more than a gathering. It became a reflection of the kind of connected veteran community Houston is building.
This week’s newsletter keeps that momentum going with fresh opportunities to stay plugged in through upcoming events, resources, and ways to engage across the city.

Houston Veteran Community Showed Up. Inside the Success of Valor & Victory Fest
What happened this weekend at Valor & Victory Fest was bigger than an event.
It was proof of what can happen when the Houston veteran community, active-duty service members, local businesses, and mission-driven organizations come together with purpose.
Hosted Sunday, the event brought together veterans, families, supporters, and active-duty Navy service members visiting Houston during Fleet Week.
From the moment doors opened, the energy was clear.
It was especially powerful to see so many active-duty service members and families spend meaningful time together. Some had not seen loved ones in over a year. Families flew in, while others drove several hours just to be there, a reminder of how much these moments of connection truly matter.
The ship commander attended alongside the troops, and several members of Houston’s veteran leadership also took the stage to speak, reinforcing the bond between those currently serving and those who have already made the transition.
Throughout the afternoon, conversations were happening everywhere. Veterans shared guidance with those still serving. Families reconnected. New relationships were formed between organizations, business leaders, and members of the military community.
The BBQ showdown between Driftwood BBQ and Sienna Smokers brought serious flavor and great competition. Congratulations to Driftwood BBQ for taking home both awards for Best BBQ.
Our event partners helped bring the experience to life as well. Guests captured memories at the 360 photo booth, custom shirts and hats were printed on-site, and the atmosphere reflected the pride and energy of the day.
A special moment came when every active-duty attendee received a signed copy of Samir Becic's book, ReSYNC Your Life, giving them something meaningful to take with them long after the event ended.
What made the day special was not just the activities. It was the sense of belonging in the room.
For many, it was a reminder that service creates lifelong bonds, and that community is still waiting on the other side of the uniform.
It was a true community experience built around connection, celebration, and opportunity.
